AROWANA BRAZIL

(Osteoglossum spp.)

Arowanas are surface-dwelling fish known for their unusually shaped, sleek bodies and jumping ability.
Nicknamed “dragon-fish” for their distinctively large scales and barbels on the lower jaws.
They are spectacular hunters both above and below water and are known for their ability to launch from the water.
They feed on insects, fish, and other small animals.
There are two species of Arowana native to South America, the Silver Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) and
the Black Arowana (Osteoglossum ferreirai).
Anglers use topwater lures or live bait, often fishing near structures where arowanas are known to hunt.
