The Chobe River region is renowned as one of Africa’s top destinations for Tiger fishing, offering a variety of unforgettable fishing experiences year-round. Each season brings its own unique opportunities, making every visit distinct.

Thanks to its unique geographical location, the Chobe area provides boat access to over 100 kilometres of exceptional fishing waters, spanning the legendary Chobe and Zambezi Rivers and the rich network of waterways in between. The eastern Zambezi Region (formerly known as the Caprivi Strip) features vast floodplains and serves as a key breeding ground for numerous fish species, many of which are successfully caught on fly and spinner.

Widely regarded as a world-class flyfishing destination for Tigerfish, the area offers year-round action, with increasing numbers of fly anglers targeting the species beyond the traditional “months with an R.” In recent years, June to August has become especially popular for its floodplains fishing and the exciting “barbel runs.” That said, the warmer months—excluding January and February when the river tends to be discoloured—also offer excellent flyfishing, with some of the largest Tigerfish, weighing up to 20 lb, often landed during this time.

The all-inclusive rate at Ichingo Chobe River Lodge includes all conventional fishing gear, allowing guests to arrive ready to fish.
Whether trolling, spinning, or drifting, the lodge’s experienced guides tailor each outing according to seasonal conditions to
maximise success.

Flyfishing enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their own equipment to suit personal preferences. With fast-flowing waters and hard-hitting Tigerfish, fishing here is a true test of skill, where the right gear can make all the difference.
