JUNGLE LODGE

Kendjam is located near the headwaters of the Irirí river, in one of the most hidden areas of the Brazilian Amazon: the Mekragnoti Indigenous Territory. Kendjam is a hidden treasure protected for centuries by the last guardians of the Amazon jungle: the Kayapo warriors. It is 550 miles southeast of Manaus, and the plane to the lodge lands on the airstrip right in the Kendjam Indian Community.

This incredible headwaters system offers an angler’s nirvana for new species on the fly.
Kendjam holds the most prolific multi-variety species fishery in the Amazon basin.

Insurances

We strongly recommend securing insurance that covers medical contingencies while abroad and cancel for any reason travel insurance.

Baggage

Please do not bring unnecessary weight to the camp. We use charter planes for air transfers to and from the camp, and we strictly enforce weight limitations. You will be able to leave items not needed in camp with the hotel concierge in Manaus if you are returning to the hotel at the end of the week. We recommend this for travelling clothes, etc. The camp has daily laundry service, so bringing a lot of clothing is not necessary. There is a strictly enforced 40-pound weight restriction per person for the charter flights. Please avoid HARD BODY LUGGAGE.

KENDJAM LODGE
Experience an unprecedented blend of wilderness and refinement: Sit back in our fully equipped lodge, located in a wonderful sandy beach area in front of the gorgeous Iriri river, 45kms downstream of the Kendjam community.

Kendjam Lodge is a comfortable wooden jungle lodge with 5 double wooden cabins with spring box beds & private bathrooms

Solar panels provide full electric power every night. Satellite Internet, Wireless connection and phone services are provided.
Daily Laundry service is provided at no extra charge.

For the most adventurous anglers, we can provide a one or two-night out camp location to reach the farthest and wildest areas of the Iriri, upstream or downstream from the lodge. This is a tent camp with all basic camping amenities, but set in the most remote and virgin waters of Kendjam.

The Kendjam waters of Iriri River and its tributaries are every angler’s nirvana for jungle fish on the fly, while wading and with lots of sight fishing opportunities.

The waters of the Iriri River are impressively clear, as opposed to most rivers of the Amazon, which carry a lot of sediment. The granite base is what makes the water very clear, even after some rain. The river downstream from the Kendjam community starts to divide its course into many parallel branches, creating several smaller, fast, clear water streams. In addition to its species diversity, the geological structure creates a geographic phenomenon that makes the river flow faster and creates a perfect environment for wet wading. This situation is common in many stretches of the Iriri River and sets the stage for this unique fishing ground in the Amazon.

Imagine yourself in a clear-water jungle river with many different options for catching a number of amazing and powerful Amazonian species, many of them unknown to most anglers from around the globe.

Rod & Reel Loan
We recommend rigging one 5/6 weight rod for the amazing Dry fly fishing for Matrinchas and Pacu in runs, which are one of the highlights of Kendjam waters. One 6/7 weight for Peacock Bass, Bicuda and other species with streamers and one 8/9wt with floating and intermediate (clear) sinking line for bigger Peacock Bass, Payara and Wolfish. Please plan on bringing extra backup rods. Powerful rods with a strong butt section are recommended.

* Our recommendations are Thomas & Thomas Rods – Exocett SS160 to 350, these models excel in the jungle in many aspects, from a hopper or big dry fly into big streamers with sinking lines or poppers/wind resistance flies.

Tackle & Gear
*A rough number of flies you should consider for a fishing week in Kendjam:

30 to 40 Streamers

15 to 20 Dries/Algae

10 to 15 Poppers

* Flies are available for sale at the lodge for USD 5 to USD 10 each, but be sure to show up with a good selection as well. You can order in advance with us fully packaged selections for Kendjam species (recommended)

Please see the Travel Planner for more information on all tackle & gear requirements.
