JUNGLE LODGE

Tariquia is located along the mythical Tarija River and offers an unforgettable experience in the unique natural environment of the Bolivian yungas. It flows through its mountains, and the river is famous for its exceptionally large golden dorados and crystal-clear waters

Rich in biodiversity in a Yunga ecosystem and stunning mountainous surroundings, this is the perfect refuge for fishing and adventure enthusiasts.

Fishing in Tariquia is not child’s play. The river is very powerful, and so are its Dorado.
Fishing by raft allows us not only access to points that are impossible from the shore, but also to gain an advantage when pursuing a large dorado escaping downstream.

Passports & Visas
A valid passport is mandatory for entry into Bolivia. Your passport must be valid for at least six months. From February 2021 on, a visa is required for American (USA) citizens. For the most European countries no visa is required, but we recommend visiting www.Bolivia-usa.org to check if your country belongs to group 1 (no visa required), group 2 (visa required), or group 3 (visa required). Bolivia has an easy visa procedure and we’ll provide you everything you need to do it.

Vaccine

A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is recommended to enter any indigenous Territory in Bolivia.

Insurances

We strongly recommend securing insurance that covers medical contingencies while abroad and cancel for any reason travel insurance.

Baggage

Please do not bring unnecessary weight to the lodge. We use charter planes for air transfers to and from the lodge, and we strictly enforce weight limitations. We recommend this for travelling clothes, etc. The camp has daily laundry service, so bringing a lot of clothing is not necessary. There is a strictly enforced 40-pound weight restriction per person for the charter flights. Please avoid HARD BODY LUGGAGE.

Property Overview

Tariquia Lodge

The Tarija River is well known for the enormous mountain dorado that inhabit it. It is a fast-flowing and transparent river with many slopes and strong currents. The dorado there have huge fins and strong musculature, clearly adapted to a river with such high flow.

A helicopter will take you to the starting point, where your English-speaking guide and a top-quality NRS raft await. You’ll be paired with another angler and set off down the river, covering an average of 6 kilometers per day. Across the 6-day adventure, you’ll have exclusive access to almost 100km of unique fishing spots, providing a diverse and thrilling experience each day. When the day winds down, our guide will secure the raft, and the helicopter will whisk you back to the lodge to relax and recharge, ready for another exhilarating day on the river.

Rod & Reel Loan
We recommend 9-weight rods for one hand. The ideal is to carry two #9 rods, one rigged with a floating line and the other with a clear-tip intermediate line. It is recommended to bring one or two extra rods. The leader is an eight-foot 40 lb. straight fluorocarbon shock leader tied to a 40 lb. 15/20” wire tippet. We strongly recommend the new Thomas & Thomas Exocett 88 300 rods, MAKO 9500 or MAKO Tournament reels, Scientific Anglers Mastery Jungle Titan 9 lines (special for the jungle), Absolute Fluorocarbon shock leader and Absolute Predator 7×7 knottable wire from Scientific Anglers. We have a small fly shop with lines, fluorocarbon, wire and an assortment of flies at the lodge.

Tackle & Gear
Big streamers or deceivers with red, yellow, orange, green, or violet tails are the most frequently chosen. One of the most popular patterns is the Andino Deceiver (created by Carlos Ingrasia from Argentina) in black with different combinations of tails, 4 to 8 inches long, with 3/0 or 4/0 hooks. The strength of the fish in TARIQUIA requires high-quality saltwater hooks. Also, other fish imitations have also proven to be truly efficient, such as Puglisi streamers in large sizes, Lefty Deceivers, the Sabalo Snake from Umpqua, and others. Flies with excessive flashabou are not recommended. Foam poppers, Titanic Sliders, mice, Dahlberg Divers, and Pole Dancers are excellent options to lure dorado on surface.

Please see the Travel Planner for more information on all tackle & gear requirements.
