MATRINXA
(Brycon amazonicus)
The Matrinxã, aka Yamu, is a strong, fast, and acrobatic fish native to the Amazon and Orinoco river basins, and is one of the most exciting light-tackle game fish in South American waters. Known for its aggressive feeding habits, explosive surface strikes, and hard fights, it’s a favourite among fly and lure anglers seeking an agile opponent.
Matrinxã are closely related to pacu and tambaqui but differ in behaviour — they are more predatory and much more active.
